ESFA Premier League District Cup

Sunderland PSFA reach national final
Posted by: allan

Sunderland PSFA won the North East stage of the ESFA Premier League Under 11 Boyss Regional District competition at Middlesbrough Academy.

Sunderland started the day with a 0-0 draw against Redcar & Cleveland before beating Stockton 1-0 with a goal from Lucas Taylor with the very last kick of the game. They then beat East Northumberland 3-0 courtesy of goals from Jesse Nelson, Rory Nelson and Jude Cogdon. Another goal from Jesse Nelson guaranteed a 1-0 victory over East Riding in the final group game which meant the boys topped the group ahead of runners up Stockton.

This gave the boys a semi final tie against Chester-le-Street which they won 1-0 courtesy of a goal from Ryly Deehan.

The final against Stockton was a very close affair which finished goalless. The ensuing penalty shoot out saw successful spot kicks from Jesse Nelson, Evan Clark, Lucas Taylor, Nathan Snowball and Matthew Taylor as both teams scored all five penalties to send the shoot out into sudden death. Goalkeeper Finley Robertson then fired home before saving Stockton's sixth effort to send the boys into the national finals at Liverpool Academy in June.
