U18s: Durham 3 North Yorkshire 2

A narrow victory
Posted by: allan

Durham began their Northern Counties season with a narrow hard-earned victory over North Yorkshire.

North Yorkshire off to good start and should have been 1-0 up very early in the game when they were awarded penalty. However, Sam Wilson made a fine save to prevent the visitors from going ahead. Not long after North Yorkshire did take the lead.

By 25 minutes Durham were on level terms when Sam Johnson scored. As the interval approached two further goals by Johnson, within the space of 3 minutes, to complete his hat trick, gave Durham a healthy half time lead.

Durham had chances to put the game beyond North Yorkshire’s reach but failed to capitalise on the opportunities created.

With 15 minutes remaining North Yorkshire reduced the deficit thus making the final stages of the game a nervous time for the home team, but no further goals were scored.
