Durham progressed into round 2 of the ESFA Under 16 girls Inter County Trophy by comprehensively beating a below strength Merseyside.
After going close on three occasions in the opening 6 minutes Durham open their account 2 minutes later. Following a quick one-two between Tia McKitterick and Mia Ross, on the edge of the penalty area, that gave Tia the time and the space to score.
Durham continued to dominate. In a 6-minute spell they added 4 more goals. Twice through Tia McKitterick to complete her hat-trick, Mia Ross and a long range shot from Grace Boyes.
Merseyside attempted to get back in the game and gave the home team some anxious moments, but the home team managed to deal with the difficulties.
Durham regained their foothold on the game with 3 further goals in the 10 minutes before half time. Chloe Wymer ended a move down the left instigated by Jasmine McQuade and continued by Charlotte Hall. A cross from Jasmine McQuade was headed on by Rebecca Ward and finished by Charlotte Hall. Finally, Mia Ross rose above everyone else to head home from a Rebecca Bell corner.
After half time Durham continued to dominate play and score regularly.

44 mins: Mia Ross, from winning the ball with a strong tackle created space for herself the fired home from 20m to complete her hat trick.
49 mins: Jasmine McQuade, having received the ball from Mia Ross, looked up then fired into the top right corner from 25m.
54 mins: After good work down the left by Charlotte Hall Tia McKitterick, having returned to the field, was on hand to score.
55 mins: An excellent strike from Tia McKitterick.
58 mins: A cross from Charlotte hall was converted by Jasmine Elliott-Wood.
60 mins: Tia McKitterick was on hand to add to her tally.
62 mins: A well struck 22m free kick from Tia McKitterick.
74 mins: Following a Durham goal kick that was flicked onto Erin Nicholson who ran unchallenged from inside the Merseyside half.
75 mins: Jasmine McQuade completed her hat trick.
There was still time for Tia McKitterick to equal Stephanie Houghton’s record of 8 individual goals in a County match established in 2003-04 but she was unable to capitalise upon the chance that she created for herself.
The Merseyside girls, naturally disappointed with the result, never gave up and can hold their heads up high.
