Durham hang on for a win

With a dogged defensive display Durham were able to end a four match losing streak at the hands of North Yorkshire to record a narrow victory.

Durham were first on the score sheet in the 16th minute. Dan Flude received the ball just outside the penalty area. He cut inside. His first attempt was partially blocked but the ball rolled kindly for him to rifle home with a right footed shot.

Six minutes after taking the lead Dan Flude had a chance to increase the home team's lead but his effort was well saved at the foot of the upright by Ben Chamberlain.

In the 24th minute North Yorkshire had a good opportunity to equalise but the attempt was headed wide of the target.

North Yorkshire were on level terms in the 27th minute. A quick throw from Ben Chamberlain down the middle, that Durham failed to intercept, found Charlie Wood whose attempt was parried for a cornerĀ  by Charlie Lamb diving to his right. From the corner an excellent strike found the top corner and made it 1-1.

Durham regained the lead in the final minute of the first half. The move began down the Durham left flank. A good tackle from a North Yorkshire defender momentarily halted progress. Fortunately for the home team the ball broke kindly to Dan Flude who scored his second goal of the match.

For the majority of the second half Durham were under the cosh as North Yorkshire continually pressed. That North Yorkshire were unable to equalise was due to a battling, defensive performance from the home side that prevented the visitors from having clear opportunities on goal.

As the game approached full time Charlie Hindson had a good chance to seal the game for Durham but he put his attempt wide of the goal.
