Durham secure semi-final spot.
Durham, on a cold December evening, gained the point they required to secure a place in the NCSFA semi-finals by beating Cleveland.
Durham dominated the first half but poor finishing, good goalkeeping from Cleveland’s Hannah Helm and the goal frame kept the score to 0-0 at half time.
The home team maintained their dominance after the interval and were rewarded, fortuitously, in the 49th minute for their efforts. Jael Anderson advanced from midfield. Her accurately placed pass found Daisy Appleton wide on the right. Daisy cut in then sent fiercely driven cross into the danger area, which was inadvertently steered into the goal by a Cleveland defender.
Three goals in the final 10 minutes ensured Durham victory. Bethany White scored twice, both headers from corners. Following good work from Daisy Appleton and Jenny Ashton, Ellie Gutcher capitalised upon a defensive error to score the final goal.
To finish top of the East League and gain a home tie in the semi-final Durham must beat Northumberland, who have a superior goal difference, in the final group match for both teams.
