  • Brother of Frank.
  • During World War I football was suspended in England but not in Scotland where he played for Morton, Heart of Midlothian and Hibernian

After leaving Aldershot Ian moved into non-league soccer and played for several Teams in NE England. In 2002 Ian scored a goal in extra time to give Whitley Bay victory in the FA Vase. Ian became player-manager of Whitley Bay in 2004 then manager. He has guided the Team to further success in the Vase with the team winning the competition in 2009, 2010 and 2011. Thus, Whitley Bay became the first team to win the FA Vase three times in a row.
